Tony Bird - Saturday May 15 8 PM $18

$18.00

Tony Bird intrigued early Folkway audiences with his unique voice and repertoire which are both informed by his homeland of Malawi.  His music is a wonderful upbeat synthesis of spirituality, politics and nature of Africa.  A prime example is his classic "Sorry Africa" CD which is filled with songs of optimism, hope and wonder.  Each one seems to represent a different facet of the land he loves and misses.

"Tony Bird is a complete original who grew up in southern Africa in the era of colonialism and Apartheid, He developed a sharp, conscious universal eye with an expansive repertoire, ranging from topical and historical commentary to love songs, musical tone poems and exotic travelogues that roam from bushmen to bicycles. Tony Bird has been called "The Father of African Folk-Rock." Yet, he is even more. He's an inventive, passionate, theatrical performer who delivers the moving, searching anthems of a mature poet. The extraordinary experience of a Bird concert is not to be missed."

The Village Voice said of Tony, "The finest, most impressive folk poet in years"
